What will my window treatments cost?
Daily, someone walks into our shop in Montclair Village and asks this question. The question brings with it a series of follow-up questions to get to an answer.
This question is just like asking, “what does a car cost?” The response is “that depends.” What make, what model, and most importantly, what features are important to you? It is the same answer for your window coverings!
Let’s look at the cost of the simplest window treatment solution for a typical double-hung window that is 35” wide and 53” tall. The factors that go into the cost are the fabric, the lift mechanism, and the optional details like adding a top treatment to hide the roller on the window.
Roller with custom colored fabric and matching Fabric Cornice
Starting with the basics, a typical roller shade fitted with a continuous loop cord lift mechanism in the least expensive privacy fabric would be about $135…and could go up to $395 for the most expensive fabric. The fabric pattern shown below can be ordered with your choice of 800 custom colors – at no additional cost – to make a designer statement on a simple window.
Cordless Roller Shade
Upgrading to a cordless lift system will add $85 to $140, depending on which type of cordless lift system you select.
Motorized roller shade with white metal fascia cover at the top
Want this shade motorized? That is always a possibility but consider if you really need a motorized solution. Usually this gets important when the window is difficult to reach, or the shade is exceptionally large which makes lifting it difficult. Adding the latest in shade motorization is the lithium-ion battery motor which will operate for 500 up/down cycles until you need to plug it in overnight to recharge the motor. This motor adds $395/shade, plus $95-125 for the remote control and charger.
And lastly, do you want to hide the roller shade on the window with a top treatment? If so, there are diverse options there too! The simplest white metal fascia could add $98, or a fabric covered cornice about $174.
So, the range from least to most expensive for the same window is from $135 to $829 for the same fabric…but different functions and style options. We are here to guide you through the decision-making process with a series of questions to understand your needs from both a functional and a design perspective. Our goal is to get you the right solution to make your window treatments match your personal style and stay within your budget.
